The Paradox We Call Christian

The Paradox We Call Christian

Theodore Lovelace

I need to say this first…… I am Christian Therefore, I love God and I love people PERIOD. This forms the foundation in which I write from. This is my platform and perspective. This is who I AM.

The current state of “Christianity” or what we call “Christian “poses a serious problem for me. If God is LOVE and we are created in HIS IMAGE and from HIS ESSENCE then for people to hate, resent, and demean one another seems a complete and total contradiction to me. For people to literally hoard millions and millions of dollars, more money than they could spend in several lifetimes, while so many families are starving and homeless, and for those same people to label themselves “Christian” is beyond my comprehension.

In this article I’ll be extracting passages from the Bible which I believe speaks TRUTH. Sure the Bible seems to contain contradictions but the bottom line is TRUTH is ETERNAL and INDESTRUCTIBLE and though there has been a massive effort to destroy the Bible, the book itself has continued to spread in both its scope and reach.

The whole world is looking for, and desires to see an INVISIBLE GOD made VISIBLE. Just think “Christian”, if you struggle with the invisible spirit realm and you say you know God then what about those who know nothing about God? Is it any wonder then that so many people are “ghost hunting”, seeking after the “paranormal”, and wanting to hear from those now long deceased?

How can the WISDOM of God be made visible?

How can people actually see the LOVE of God made visible?

How will people truly recognize the JOY of The Lord?

By and through the EXPRESSIONS and THE DEEDS of your BODY. Just like Christ, our whole life should be to make VISIBLE the INVISIBLE God. You and I ought to show God in a ‘Love Language’ people can understand.

TRUTH is understood as a concept in what’s called the “staging” area of the mind, and unless it is ACTED upon lies DORMANT. When we apply the TRUTH that we understand to the circumstances of our lives then that TRUTH then becomes a reference point in our lives. In other words, when we, by faith, DO TRUTH while we are going through the painful times in our lives THAT TRUTH literally becomes a part of us and is put on display for others to see……… “The Word becomes flesh”.

How can he, born with no arms and no legs, be so vibrant, joyful, and successful?

How can she lose her entire family and that tragedy becomes her testimony that encourages millions of others?

How can they lose every penny they ever owned and within no time become richer than they ever imagined?

Somehow, somewhere all of those mentioned in the scenarios above got ahold of TRUTH and refused to let it go and eventually THAT TRUTH got ahold of them and made the IMPOSSIBLE-POSSIBLE.

I believe that diligent exposure to TRUTH (which “sets us free”), followed by the application of that TRUTH in life’s circumstances, reinforces A LIFE (eternal) within us that is PROGRESSIVE, PROSPEROUS, and INDESTRUCTIBLE. Jesus called it “ABUNDANT LIFE”.

HERE’S THE “CHRISTIAN” PARADOX THAT BAFFLES ME- Take a look at the following scriptures from The Message Bible………

“God is love. When we take up permanent residence in a life of love, we live in God and God lives in us. This way, love has the run of the house, becomes at home and mature in us, so that we’re free of worry on Judgment Day—our standing in the world is identical with Christ’s. There is no room in love for fear. Well-formed love banishes fear. Since fear is crippling, a fearful life—fear of death, fear of judgment—is one not yet fully formed in love.

We, though, are going to love—love and be loved. First we were loved, now we love. He loved us first. If anyone boasts, “I love God,” and goes right on hating his brother or sister, thinking nothing of it, he is a liar. If he won’t love the person he can see, how can he love the God he can’t see? The command we have from Christ is blunt: Loving God includes loving people. You’ve got to love both”. (1Jn 4:17-21)

Love should counteract and completely eradicate fear. So why in America are there so many “professed” Christians and FEAR is so prevalent? Also, according to the above scripture, a person CANNOT be Christian and HATE. If that is the case, then that person is, get this, A LIAR!

Therefore, and again according to scripture (GOD’s TRUTH), a Christian “racist” is a “LIAR”. A Christian “sexist” is a “LIAR”. A Christian “homophobe” is a “LIAR”. What do these “HATERS” do with these TRUTHS in their Bibles while they are singing praises to the God who wrote those words? Why are there so many “Christians” listening to Trump, Cruz, Hannity, Savage, Coulter, and Limbaugh when all they do is spew hate and venom. I just don’t get it. Or maybe it’s just me???

Here’s another passage from the same book but different chapter which in addition to reinforcing everything mentioned above goes on to describe a Christian as one who displays in a tangible way, the LOVE of God……….

“My dear children, let’s not just talk about love; LET’S PRACTICE REAL LOVE. This is the only way we’ll know we’re living truly, living in God’s reality. It’s also the way to shut down debilitating self-criticism, even when there is something to it. For God is greater than our worried hearts and knows more about us than we do ourselves.” (1Jn 3:13-19)

This is how we’ve come to understand and experience love: Christ sacrificed his life for us. This is why we ought to live sacrificially for our fellow believers, and not just be out for ourselves. If you see some brother or sister in need and have the means to do something about it but turn a cold shoulder and do nothing, what happens to God’s love? It becomes ineffectual. And guess what? You rendered it ‘ineffectual’!

It seems as though this same group of people, who like to call themselves Christian (I call them modern day Pharisees), possess another identifiable trait and that is they refuse to help the poor who live among them. They not only refuse to help the poor, they even belittle the poor for being poor.

You know I really want to believe I’ve identified a very small group of LOUD but EXTREME people in our society who, in my opinion, and by their very actions, have made a mockery of Christianity. What this group does and says goes completely against what’s described as THE LOVE OF GOD. And I truly hope and pray that one day this group of people wake up and realize the damage they’ve caused to America in general and people’s lives in particular.
