Social Media Stole My Relationship

With things like social networking and text messaging, it’s hard to think that someone could fall in love in our world. Everything in life seems to point towards material possessions, or celebrity worship. Relationships seem to have been put on the back burner. I think every individual’s goal is to fall in love and have a beautiful, long lasting relationship. But, I think societies goal is to take that away from you. Television wants to grab your focus and brands are ever trying to get you to buy from them. The Social Media platforms like Twitter, Facebook and others enhance this advertising platform. If you aren’t aware, you can lose yourself and even your relationship to these kinds of things.

We live in a different time. The world is much more technology based than it has been in the past and people spend a great deal of time online. If you forget what’s most important in life, then you can lose out on what you really want the most. I think everyone wants a long lasting, supportive and beautiful relationship, but they forget that because they are so caught up in less important things.

There are many ways to maintain love in our fast paced, cut throat world. One of them is putting your partner first. What is the most important thing in your life? Is it your partner? If you answered yes, then you are right. Your partner, who you are in a relationship with, is the person that matters most. When it comes to spending time with them, make sure to turn off the phone, log out of Facebook and look at them.

In my previous relationship, the other person got so caught up in virtual worlds like Tumblr, Facebook and Twitter that she forgot about our relationship. Clearly, the digital world can be poison for a relationship. It seems like the world wants us to forget about love and submit to it, but that is not what life is about. Life is about falling in love and being with someone you love. If you ever feel yourself losing that special connection with your partner to the digital world, make sure to fix it before you lose it completely. Let them know that they are number one in your life and they mean far more to you than anything else. Don’t let the world of social media and work and every other insignificant thing get in the way of you and the person you are with.
