In The Trenches
You feel as if everyone knows about your situation and they are whispering behind your back,”Brothers and sisters, we don’t want you to be ignorant about the suffering we experienced in the province of Asia. It was so extreme that it was beyond our ability to endure. We even wondered if we could go on living. In fact, we still feel as if we’re under a death sentence. But we suffered so that we would stop trusting ourselves and learn to trust God, who brings the dead back to life. He has rescued us from a terrible death, and he will rescue us in the future. We are confident that he will continue to rescue us”. This is what life lived in the trenches looks like.
“Man, that is born of a woman is of few days and full of trouble”. Job 14:1
At some point, every person in this world is going to arrive at a place in life when the bottom seems to fall out. There will come a day when you will literally reach the end of your rope. Some of you have already been through it and can testify to it. Some of you are there right now and are crying out for help. And for the rest of you if you haven’t experienced life lived in the trenches then keep living that time is coming. I promise. When you reach that point, the world, the flesh and the devil are all going to tell you that God doesn’t see you and that He doesn’t care about you.
Life lived In The Trenches
• What do you when your child is being rebellious and will not obey?
• What do you do when your marriage seems hopelessness and on the brink of divorce?
• What do you do when all of a sudden you lose your job?
• What do you do when you have too much month left at the end of your money?
• What do you do with the grief and the pain when a child or loved one dies unexpectedly?
• What do you do when your heart is broken, your dreams and hopes are shattered?
• What do you do when your spiritual life is dry and God seems nowhere to be found?
It is at these times you won’t be able to think straight. It’s impossible to pray and even breathing sometimes becomes a chore. People will begin to get on your nerves and attending church becomes a challenge. You feel as if everyone knows about your situation and they are whispering behind your back. But, you thought you shared it privately with only a few people?
Watch Your Back
Let me tell you something folks- there are Judases in every camp. There are folks who you thought were your friends who will take what you’ve shared with them in private and make it public. And will use your situation as a way to criticize and belittle you. Which only adds to hurt you’re already experiencing.
I spent years in drug and alcohol recovery groups and in those groups, we were brutally honest about our lives and no one would leave the group and go and broadcast anyone’s personal and private business that’s the reason we “kept coming back”. Because we shared a common trait…we knew we were all sick and desperately wanted to get well. But there’s something about some church folk when it comes down to dealing with some of us sick folk who sometimes experience problems in life. They will take your problems and put you down just to magnify themselves. In other words, they, as the bible says…..
“Tend to think of themselves more highly than they ought to…….”
PEOPLE, WE ARE ALL DIRT AND DIRT TENDS TO GET DIRTY!
