Listen to Your Instincts

Your Instincts Count

Why do you do it? Why do you continually ignore your gut instincts? Perhaps they are things that you didn’t see at first. It could be anything, from putting blinders on, or ignoring behaviors that you have grown immune to. We all seem to be on a quest to meet that one perfect person. Are we so desperate to be “loved” that we will put up with anything just to be saved from our single selves?

Well, WAKE UP!! THIS IS NOT THE TIME TO LET EVERYTHING FALL TO THE WAYSIDE, IGNORING ALL INSTINCTS FOR THE SAKE OF LOVE!!

Figure It Out

The truth is, this is the time to get to know someone for who they are. And figure out what you want in a partner and a person. Take for example my cousin Nicole. She is the typical girl, been in the dating scene for a few months now and hates every minute of it. Oh sure she loves being wined and dined, and the whole aspect of “being in a relationship”, but truthfully, half the guys she’s meeting would never have passed the test if she didn’t feel the pressure of her biological clock ticking.

She is ignoring that voice in the back of her head, that feeling in the pit of her stomach, and you know what I am talking about. We all get it. It’s that little nagging thought that maybe the situation isn’t quite right, maybe this person isn’t exactly what we had initially thought. If any of those thoughts or feelings surface, we have the tendency to ignore that initial “gut instinct.” I know I’ve been guilty of it, and I’m sure those of you reading this are probably nodding in agreement!

Set Standards

It’s ok, we have all been there. But now it is time to stop. It lowers the standards we set for ourselves and for the people that we allow in our lives. And it can be downright dangerous. When you ignore your basic instincts (ex. Fight or flight), you are potentially putting yourself in jeopardy. How many shows do you see on tv these days that are the embodiment of these types of situations? Most of them do not end well! My dad always says to me and I will now say it to you: “Safe and Smart”. Be aware of your surroundings, know who your friends are, and most importantly, if something doesn’t feel right, chances are it probably isn’t…. Happy Dating!!!
